Accessibility Statement

Accessibility statement for Little Somerford Parish Council website

This accessibility statement applies to the website littlesomerfordparishcouncil.gov.uk.

This website is run by Little Somerford Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We have also tried to make the text on the website as clear and simple as possible.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some images on the website may not have appropriate alternative text. This means screen reader users may not receive a meaningful description of the image. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).

Some PDF documents published on the website may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. For example, they may:

  • not be properly tagged
  • not have a correct reading order
  • not contain document headings
  • not be easy to navigate using assistive technology

This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) and may also affect 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) where document structure is missing.

Some pages may not provide the clearest heading structure or navigation landmarks for assistive technology users. This may make it harder to understand page structure and move around the site efficiently. This may fail WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) and 2.4.1 (Bypass Blocks).

The cookie banner and pop-up controls may not be fully accessible to keyboard and screen reader users. This may affect WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard), 2.4.3 (Focus Order) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).

Some link text and page labels may not always be descriptive enough when read out of context. This may affect WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose).

We are reviewing older content and documents and will continue to improve accessibility over time.

Disproportionate burden

At this time, we have not claimed disproportionate burden for any part of the website.

Content that is not within scope of the accessibility regulations

Some older PDF and Word documents published before 23 September 2018 may be exempt unless they are needed for active administrative processes. However, where possible, we will provide accessible alternatives on request.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are working to:

  • publish this accessibility statement
  • review and improve image alternative text
  • improve page structure and navigation
  • review the accessibility of PDF documents and replace key documents with accessible HTML pages where practical
  • test the website more regularly for accessibility issues
